Simpsons Season 5 - Homer's Barbershop Quartet
Thanks for the guest post by Laura Mitchell
Simpsons Season 5 features an episode called Homer's Barbershop Quartet. It is routinely on satellite TV fromhttp://www.CannonSatellite.com and is a favorite among most any Simpsons fan. When looking through old records the kids stumble upon one with Homer and some local townspeople on the cover. The story is told of the Barbershop Quartet that Homer was previously in featuring Elementary School principal Seymour Skinner, Kwik-e-Mart owner Apu, and local drunk Barney Gumble.
The group was called the Be Sharps and was a reference to the popular group the Beatles. This is noted by the name of their first album. Meet the Be Sharps is a reference to the Bea! tles' Meet the Beatles album. In the end of the episode, after their group is no longer popular they have a reunion atop a building like the Beatles during the Let It Be album.
This is a great episode for anyone that is a Simpsons or a Beatles fan. The writer's were obviously fans of the Beatles and make several great pop culture references throughout the episode. It features great musical guests such as George Harrison and David Crosby. The group The Dapper Dans voice the Barbershop Quartet. You should definitely do yourself a favor and check out this episode in the off chance that you may have missed it when it originally aired or any of the subsequent times it has been on in syndication.

A Fun Trip!
Guest post written by Celine Marbles
Just the other day, I was online looking at www.HearingAidsByMiracleEar.
We decided to take the boys to a local restaurant that serves all macaroni and cheese. What more could a child ask for in a lunch option? My husband and I actually found it to be excellent. My grandchildren raved over it and I suspect we will have to take them back again someday. Between the lunch place and the basketball game, I think our grandkids had a great time. I can't wait to have them back for another visit.

VISTAPRINT
Okay...Anyone who knows me knows that I am really excited about selling Avon. I am not a pushy person and have never worked in sales but in a desperate attempt to stay at home with my children, I signed up for Avon and surprisingly fell in love with it. I have to stop myself from buying more than I am selling, haha.
Anyway, I am a very organized person…to say the least. I am not sure if you are familiar with Avon, but you have to order by a certain deadline and if your representative is ever so kind, s/he will write his/her name, number, website and/or e-mail address on the back of the brochure so you can call her/him to order. Well, I just had to have a personalized pen with my name and newfound title (Ashley Howard – Independent Sales Representative) to write this information… nevermind the fact that I write it on the brochure BEFORE my customer gets it. Once I saw my less than perfect handwriting on the back of the brochures I decided I needed a stamp with my information so that my brochures looked legitimate. I searched various craft stores as well as websites and then I found it *DUN DUN* VistaPrint!!! I got my very pretty pink and green personalized pen PLUS a stamp with my name, website and e-mail address (I don’t usually talk on the phone because there may be an outburst of screaming or laughing at any given moment) for $6.50. I was upset when I saw the estimated delivery time (21 days) because my only customer –yes, my mom- would think less of me if I had my name handwritten on a brochure she would return to me. It came in about a week!! Now I am going to order business cards, another pen and one of those stamps that you can change the date on. I thought about getting a car magnet… is that over the top since my only customers are my family members? Okay, okay I’ll wait on it.
Please visit them, they have TONS of free things, including holiday cards, and you only pay shipping.

Wordless Wednesdays
Nope. No one lost their lunch. My husband dropped my magic cookie bars IN the oven. Yes. IN the oven.POGO.COM!!
My dad and I were just discussing the joys of being in academia. He is a professor, my mother is an elementary teacher, my husband is a high school teacher and my mother-in-law is a middle school (yup, middle school) teacher. Sure you have to deal with snotty kids, rude parents and know-it-all coworkers but you get summers and weekends off, two weeks for Christmas, snow days, and you know you’ll generally be done working by 4PM. So to those of you who are NOT teachers, what do you do when you look outside and see the snow pouring down? Or when it’s 3PM on a beautiful Friday and your brain has totally checked out? Play scrabble!!!
Pogo.com is the modern version of Scrabble and a great way to speed the time along without feeling too guilty. You do have to use your brain to play and who knows, maybe one of the words will inspire your next great project!
Check out pogo.com…just not while your wife is in labor…for 33 hours (yup, that’s what my husband did).
