Fearless Fridays

This week I was not fearless. My heart hangs heavy as I write this. Two boys and their father were hunting and the older son (age 10) accidentally shot the younger son (age 7) in the back. The younger son passed before getting to the hospital. I did not have the pleasure of knowing either one of the boys but my heart hurts. For the older brother. For the younger brother. For the parents. For the paramedics. I feel such sorrow for the parents having to mourn the death of their child while consoling the one who did it. I cannot imagine how a 10 year old can even process what happened or begin to sort the emotions he is going through. I am angry (at no one) that this had to happen and am furious at the people who are anonymously bashing the parents through online forums. I am fearful because this could happen to anyone. Just one day before this incident, the news stated there's a budget cut in the police department so there's one game warden for FOUR counties. They suggested to "stay inside and call the police" if we hear gun shots from people hunting without a license and to "stay out of wooded areas". I live in one of the few neighborhoods in my county so this is not as much of a concern for us but we visit friends who live in "the boonies" and I am terrified of them playing in the backyard of these houses for fear of an accident occurring. Please pray for the Craig family.

My fearless act of the week was...

I started my own business!

Okay, it isn't the next Saks or anything, but I am still proud. We could definitely use a little more money, I love beauty products and hate the thought of leaving my children with anyone for any amount of time so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I am now a proud Avon representative and will keep you posted on my progress.

My fearless act of the week was...
Establishing a bed time!!!!
My daughter has been sleeping 6 or more hours without waking each night and going to sleep on her own around 6:30 PM or 7:00 PM since she was born. We call her "knock-out Nadia" because if she is tired, she will sleep no matter how bright, noisy or uncomfortable it is.
My son fights sleep like it is his worst enemy. Getting him to sleep made me more exhausted than keeping up with him all day (which, I might add, is pretty exhausting!). He was going to sleep anywhere from 10:30 PM - 12:00 AM. This week I started out with trying to have him to sleep by 9:00 PM with the ultimate goal being 8:00 PM. Last night he was asleep by 8:17 PM!!!

Fearless Fridays

I have to admit, I wasn't too fearless this week. I was actually fearful. My son had a fever that kept climbing (didn't get to 102 so it wasn't extremely high, but still worried me) and he was actually still. STILL. Like he wasn't into everything and pulling things down. He was S T I L L. I would put him on the floor in his room to play and he would lay down or start whining and crawl to me. My son isn't even still in his sleep! Everyone said he was just teething but I knew that it was something else so I called his doctor. They didn't want him to come in until he had a fever of 103 or less for 3 days!!!!!!!! In my eyes and with my anxiety and crazy wandering mind, that was an eternity. Anything could happen to my little boy (or that's what I thought) if he had a fever and was lethargic for 3 days. So, my fearless moment was being a bit outspoken and demanding that my son be seen. If anything, I'd be out of $15 because of the co-pay and the doctor's day would go by more quickly since she wouldn't be sitting around doing nothing, right? Well, it turned out that my poor son had a double ear infection. (I told you he only got my worst qualities. I have had more ear infections since he was born than he has!) We also found out that he is allergic to penicillin (one of my fearful moments of the week). He is now doing fine and back to his old self. Now if we could capture that stillness (without the illness) for just a few moments... Photobucket

One of the things I always fault myself for is being fearful. I worry too much about things I can't change and even more about the possibilities of trying to change things within my power and coming up short.

I know not everyone is like me (not even close, I hope!) but everyone has something they are a bit apprehensive about. At the beginning of each week I'm going to make up my mind to be fearless about something. I'd love for you to join me and leave me a comment (on Friday) about your fearless act of the week!

I'm cheating a little bit this week, I'm going waaaaay back like months and months ago since this is the first one. My fearless act:

cutting luxury things out and not working so that I could stay home with my precious son. I have to justify this to so many people and when people know I went to UVA and am now a stay-at-home mom they seem to think I wasted my time but I would not trade this decision for the world. My son is just the most perfect thing in the world and I will always do whatever it takes to ensure that everything that happens to him is in his best interest.
